Loch Raven Reservoir Area
Loch Raven Reservoir combines a drinking-water landscape with defined opportunities for trails, wildlife observation, fishing and permitted boating.
A reservoir with specific recreation rules
DNR’s Loch Raven Reservoir guidance explains that the land is owned by Baltimore City and managed to protect the reservoir. The area offers hiking, birdwatching, nature photography and other recreation, with restrictions that reflect its water-supply role. Swimming is prohibited, pets must remain leashed and out of the water, and boating requires the appropriate permit.
The reservoir is reached from several public roads. A trail outing, shore-fishing visit and boat trip therefore need different starting points. DNR also advises non-hunting visitors to be aware of active hunting seasons. These are practical features of a managed landscape rather than a single conventional park entrance.
The fishing-center destination
For boating-related services, the county-owned Loch Raven Fishing Center is a specific destination. The county directory places it at 12101 Dulaney Valley Road, with a Phoenix postal address. Use the center’s current season and permit information before planning a launch or rental. Keeping the center, reservoir trails and nearby communities distinct makes an outing easier to organize.
