Jacksonville

Jacksonville’s Sweet Air Road recreation complex and volunteer sports programs provide a shared center for the surrounding rural communities.

A shared community site

The Jacksonville Community Plan describes Sweet Air Park as a gathering place combining recreation and senior-center uses. The existing building contains a gymnasium, activity and meeting rooms, and offices. Outside are athletic fields, a paved path, pavilions and picnic areas. The plan also discusses a separate expanded senior center as a project, rather than an additional facility already available to visitors.

This shared arrangement helps explain why several programs can point to the same general site while using different rooms or outdoor spaces. The nearby elementary-school recreation center adds another venue through the county’s joint-use system. A program’s exact location therefore matters more than the broad Jacksonville label.

Find the activity and the field

The Carroll Manor Recreation Council identifies its service area as Jacksonville and Phoenix. Its current site organizes basketball, dance, field hockey, fitness, lacrosse, soccer, tennis and other activities, with a separate field finder. Families can use those program pages to match registration, age group and venue. The council’s volunteer structure also offers a direct way to contribute to local recreation.
