Glen Arm
Glen Arm’s former railway station and crossroads buildings preserve evidence of the transport and commerce that served Long Green Valley.
A station with a second life
The architect’s Glen Arm Railroad Station project account dates the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad building to 1909. It served passengers and freight, later became a restaurant, and deteriorated after a period of vacancy. The rehabilitation project illustrates how a small transportation building can be adapted while retaining its recognizable roof overhangs, brackets and shingled exterior.
The station is listed at 5205 Glen Arm Road in the Long Green Valley Historic District record. The same inventory includes the nearby former school and other village buildings. Read together, these entries show a crossroads with commercial and institutional functions alongside the valley’s farms.
Follow the buildings, not an assumed rail route
Glen Arm’s surviving station offers a focal point for understanding the former Ma and Pa railroad. An architectural project page establishes the building’s history and rehabilitation work; it does not provide a current business timetable. Confirm any intended indoor visit with the current operator. The historic railway identity also should not be mistaken for a continuous public trail through every former railroad property in the valley.
