Fullerton

Fullerton’s history of a general store and early school continues in a community park and recreation network centered on Fullerton Avenue.

Fullerton’s story predates the surrounding suburban development. The local community history records a post office and general store opening in 1885, followed by Fullerton School in a one-room log building in 1886. A frame school replaced it four years later on land purchased from the Lassahn family. Those small institutions show how commerce and education helped organize the early community.

A park at the center of recreation

Today, the Overlea-Fullerton Recreation Office operates from the Fullerton Community Building at 4304 Fullerton Avenue. It supports the recreation council and its programs, and the council welcomes interested residents to its regular meetings. This gives the building a practical role in organizing activities as well as hosting them.

The community association’s recreation directory lists Fullerton Park’s pavilion, picnic areas, playground, ball fields and multipurpose courts. The range matters: organized games, children’s play and a picnic can involve different parts of the same local destination.

Fullerton also shares a wider recreation network with Overlea. Council programs cover sports and other activities, while surrounding parks have their own facilities and rules. For a particular team or class, the council’s program listing identifies the actual site and enrollment requirements. The park and community building remain useful starting points for understanding that network without treating every nearby facility as part of Fullerton Park itself.
