Edgemere
Edgemere’s North Point State Park combines Chesapeake shoreline and protected marsh with traces of a trolley-era amusement park; local recreation also has an active volunteer network.
Edgemere’s Chesapeake shoreline includes a place once designed for a very different kind of outing. North Point State Park, at 8400 North Point Road, occupies land that included Bay Shore Amusement Park from 1906 to 1947. Baltimore visitors arrived by trolley for entertainment beside the water. The remaining trolley station and restored fountain connect that resort history with today’s park landscape.
Marsh, woodland and shoreline
The park encompasses 1,310 acres, including the legislatively protected Black Marsh Wildlands. Trails pass through a mixture of habitats, and the Defenders Trail recalls the route used during the War of 1812. Bicycles are permitted in parts of the park but excluded from the wildlands.
The park’s current notices matter alongside its history. At the October 2026 source check, the end of Crystal Pier was closed because of storm damage, and the Trolley Station Pavilion was closed for renovation. The park page provides the updates and summer day-use reservation information.
Organized community recreation
The Edgemere-Sparrows Point Recreation Council serves the surrounding community through athletic and other programs. Its current listings include wrestling, basketball, soccer and lacrosse, with separate registrations by activity and season. This volunteer-supported network adds recurring community activity to the area’s larger waterfront destinations.
