Brooklandville

Brooklandville sits at the meeting of Falls Road and the Green Spring Valley, where railroad-era buildings remain close to a modern medical campus.

Brooklandville brings together several layers of Baltimore County development along Falls Road. A former railroad inn and station recall nineteenth-century travel through the Green Spring Valley. Nearby, the Green Spring Station medical campus serves a much broader region. Historic building names and modern Lutherville mailing addresses describe different aspects of the same road corridor.

An inn oriented toward the railroad

The Maryland Historical Trust’s Brooklandville House record identifies the stone building at 10501 Falls Road as the Valley Inn. John R. Gwynn advertised a tavern here in 1832, the year the Green Spring Valley branch railroad was constructed. Early service used horse-drawn rail carriages before steam locomotives arrived.

The building’s arrangement reflected that business: its principal entrance faced the tracks, while a tavern room opened toward Falls Road. A kitchen occupied the basement below. The structure also housed a post office during part of its history, making it a useful point of exchange for travelers and nearby residents.

Part of a larger valley landscape

The Green Spring Valley Historic District inventory records the Brooklandville railroad station at 10502 Falls Road, as well as the inn. The wider district includes buildings from several periods across a much larger valley. Its designation documents architectural and development history; it does not make the listed houses, schools or former railroad properties public visitor sites.

A present-day service destination

Johns Hopkins Medicine at Green Spring Station provides outpatient services across several buildings, including the three pavilions and the Falls and Joppa concourses. The campus uses Lutherville addresses and offers parking at its buildings. Patients need the specific building and practice location on their appointment information. This modern cluster adds a substantial service role to a place long shaped by the movement of people along Falls Road.
