Bowleys Quarters

Bowleys Quarters’ peninsula identity is reflected in a long-running improvement association, watershed advocacy, a community newsletter and a small public book exchange.

Waterways shape both the setting and the civic concerns of Bowleys Quarters. The Bowleys Quarters Improvement Association formed in 1938 as more people began living on the peninsula year-round. Its continuing work includes drainage, water and sewer services, roads, development and watershed protection. These everyday issues explain the community’s relationship with the surrounding creeks as much as its waterfront recreation does.

A community organized across peninsulas

The association’s territory description covers the Bowleys Quarters and Carroll Island peninsulas, extending east of Martin State Airport and Route 43 toward Saltpeter Creek. This is an association service and membership area, rather than a separate municipal boundary. Its attention also reaches upstream where development can affect runoff into local waterways.

The Dock Line newsletter and regular general meetings provide ways to follow local proposals and community activity. Volunteers also organize social gatherings and outreach through the Just BQuz group. The association’s hall is available through rental arrangements.

A small everyday resource

The association maintains a Little Free Library with books to take or share and a dedicated children’s shelf. It is a modest but tangible counterpart to the larger planning issues: a place where neighbors can exchange something useful without waiting for a meeting or scheduled program.
