Neighborhood

CARE

CARE is a small east Baltimore rowhouse neighborhood near Northeast Market, with community work reflected in its name and local green-space projects.

CARE’s name is an acronym: Live Baltimore expands it as Caring Active Restoring Efforts. Its housing is mainly rowhomes. The City boundary places CARE beside Middle East, McElderry Park, Patterson Place, Butchers Hill, Washington Hill and Dunbar-Broadway, giving this small community a place among several distinct east Baltimore neighborhoods.

A historic market nearby

Northeast Market at 2101 East Monument Street offers a useful local food-shopping reference. Baltimore Public Markets dates its establishment to 1885, the current brick building to 1955 and a later renovation to 2013. Its individual merchant directory covers everyday grocery shopping and prepared food, with individual vendors setting their own offerings.

Investment in shared spaces

Southeast CDC’s fiscal-year 2024 report records fencing added to five community green spaces across CARE and McElderry Park. That work adds a concrete example of neighborhood-scale investment to the area’s community-oriented name. The report documents the improvement; individual gardens and community spaces may have their own opening times or participation arrangements.
