Canton Industrial Area

Canton Industrial Area connects southeast Baltimore’s working freight network with a distinct stretch of public waterfront parkland near Canton.

Canton Industrial Area is a separate City geography from residential Canton. The official map places it alongside several southeast neighborhoods, including Highlandtown, Greektown, Broening Manor and Medford. Freight handling helps explain its industrial identity.

Rail service behind port activity

Canton Railroad dates its founding to 1906 and describes its role linking local industries to CSX and Norfolk Southern. Switching, transloading and warehousing connect individual businesses with the wider national freight network. These are working transportation operations, with tracks and yards serving industrial customers rather than public sightseeing.

A separate public waterfront

City geometry places part of Canton Waterfront Park within this mapped area. The Canton Community Association identifies the waterfront promenade, green space and Korean War Memorial as features of the park. Those public spaces offer a different experience from the active freight properties around the harbor. A park walk belongs on the designated public waterfront; neighboring rail and cargo sites have their own controlled access and operational purposes.
