Neighborhood
Broadway East
Broadway East pairs rowhouse streets with the American Brewery’s inventive reuse and the historic pumping-station site of Baltimore Food Hub.
Broadway East’s best-known industrial landmark now serves a very different purpose. Humanim lists the American Brewery at 1701 North Gay Street as its Baltimore headquarters. The restoration’s architect, Quinn Evans, describes how the former grain tower became a central lobby and brewing tanks became collaboration spaces for the new offices. The building’s old machinery helped shape its new interior.
Another industrial site, another use
Nearby at 1801 East Oliver Street, Baltimore Food Hub occupies a former City pumping-station site. Its history dates the pumping buildings to 1891 and credits architect Jackson C. Gott. City Seeds opened there in 2017, adding a food-enterprise chapter to a place originally built for public infrastructure.
Residential blocks around the landmarks
Live Baltimore describes Broadway East’s housing as rowhomes. The City map places those blocks beside Oliver, Middle East and South Clifton Park. These working nonprofit and food-business properties are destinations for an arranged meeting or event; their striking architecture does not establish regular public interior tours.
