Neighborhood

Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills shares an architectural history with Arcadia while retaining its own small City neighborhood identity near Lauraville and Moravia-Walther.

Beverly Hills is part of an architectural story that reaches beyond its present neighborhood boundary. The Maryland Historical Trust’s account of the Arcadia–Beverly Hills Historic District describes freestanding houses with setbacks and small front yards, including bungalows and several revival styles. Those features help explain the area’s residential character without suggesting that every house has the same age or design.

A house at the beginning of the story

The Trust traces an early chapter to William H. Weaver, who built his house in 1887. Later subdivisions shaped the surrounding residential district. That history is a reason to look carefully at the buildings from public streets, while remembering that historic houses remain individual properties with their own access arrangements.

Two useful maps with different purposes

The City neighborhood map treats Beverly Hills separately from adjacent Arcadia, Lauraville and Moravia-Walther. The historic district and the current neighborhood therefore serve different purposes. For a property-specific question, use the actual address and the relevant preservation record rather than assuming that a broad district description settles a home’s designation or requirements.
