Neighborhood

Bayview

Bayview’s porch-front rowhomes and alphabetically named streets form a residential neighborhood beside the separate Johns Hopkins Bayview campus.

Bayview is a residential neighborhood beside the separately mapped Hopkins Bayview medical campus. Live Baltimore describes wide rowhomes with small front porches, along with apartment buildings. The City map places Bayview beside Hopkins Bayview and Pulaski Industrial Area, distinguishing its homes from the institutional and commercial properties around them.

A neighborhood alphabet

The City’s 2005 southeastern-neighborhood plan identifies an A-to-K pattern in Bayview’s street names, running from Anglesea through Kane. It is a memorable feature of the local street grid and a small piece of neighborhood history that remains useful when learning the area.

Eastern Avenue beyond the residential blocks

Nearby Yard56 uses 5601 Eastern Avenue for its shopping and dining destination. Its operator’s directory covers businesses at that specific development, rather than businesses throughout Bayview. The neighborhood’s front porches, the adjacent medical campus and the commercial corridor each have a different role: residential blocks are the subject here, while the larger destinations draw people from well beyond the neighborhood.
