Arcadia
Arcadia’s bungalows, cottages and duplexes connect an early twentieth-century subdivision story with an improvement association publishing current neighborhood news.
Arcadia has a varied collection of houses rather than a single rowhouse pattern. Live Baltimore identifies bungalows, cottages, duplexes and some rowhouses. Porches, roof shapes and the spacing between buildings offer useful details to notice when exploring the neighborhood from public streets.
A subdivision and an association
The Maryland Historical Trust records a 1914 land purchase by the Carswell interests and the use of the Arcadia name. It also describes the improvement association formed in 1923 to pursue basic neighborhood infrastructure. That account belongs to the larger Arcadia–Beverly Hills Historic District, whose extent differs from today’s City neighborhood polygon.

The Arcadia Improvement Association continues to publish The Arcadian, including 2026 editions. Its newsletters are a practical source for community matters and opportunities to participate. The City map places Arcadia beside Beverly Hills, Moravia-Walther, Waltherson and the Herring Run area. Use the association’s latest notice for an event, and a destination’s street address for the actual meeting place.
